Background:

I joined Travel Nation in December 2021 after an imposed break from the travel industry due to a little known pandemic, during which time I supervised a gastropub. This gave me the chance to enjoy my other main interests - good food and even better wine!

When I am not exploring the ever-evolving Brighton foodie scene, I can be found hiking on the Sussex Downs or supporting my local football team in Brighton.

Originally from:

Brighton, East Sussex

Where did you spend your "student days"?

Having caught the travel bug at a young age, I started my travels as a fresh-faced 20-year-old.

Travel industry experience:

I started my career in the travel industry booking school trips to the USA and ski trips to the Alps, before moving across to luxury travel. After a sabbatical, I then worked for a tour operator, specialising in South East Asia and South America.

About Scott

When I’m, not at work or travelling, I’m…

Eating out, hiking, or at a gig.

My favourite band is…

Foo Fighters

On my round the world trip I spent longer than expected in…

Bolivia. The people, the landscape and diversity just blew me away.

Which place exceeded your expectations on your travels and why?

Siem Reap, Cambodia. Not only are the temples some of the most incredible sights I have ever seen but there are mountains, waterfalls and the Tonle Sap river all in close proximity. It's definitely worth giving yourself time to explore.

What are your top five must-pack items?

Camera, bug spray, a well-thumbed travel guide, a phrasebook and a pack of cards.

If you could live anywhere else in the world, where would it be and why?

Toronto, Canada. Such a melting pot of cultures and the opportunities for ‘staycations’ would be amazing because the nature in Canada is astounding.

What was your first great travel experience?

The quintessential East Coast backpacker trail in Australia as a young and inexperienced 20-year-old. Little did I realise that this trip would shape the rest of my personal and working life.

What are your top 3 places in the world?

Patagonia

New Orleans, USA

Wanaka, NZ

Where/what would you most like to visit?

Either a safari in southern Africa or the Lost City of Petra in Jordan.

What’s the best/worst thing you’ve eaten on your travels?

The best thing is definitely steak at Don Julio’s in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The worst is either a cow udder in Cambodia or a cockroach in Thailand. Bleurgh.

If you had just 24 hours in a big city which one would it be?

It’s a cliché but it would have to be NYC. In the city that never sleeps, you can always find something to do so 24 hours could be pretty action-packed!

What’s the best party you have been to while travelling?

Mardi Gras, New Orleans. I'm not sure it will ever be beaten.
